Who Makes Sarthak TMT?

Sarthak TMT is made by SKA Ispat Pvt Ltd, part of the SKA Group. The group began in 1990 as a road construction contractor working on PMGSY and PWD projects, then moved into steel manufacturing. According to the company, its TMT rolling mill at the CSIDC Growth Centre in Siltara, Raipur, opened in 2020 with a capacity of 0.36 million tonnes a year, and it plans to expand towards 1 million tonnes. Besides TMT bars, the plant also produces billets and other long steel products.

Because the mill is in Raipur's own industrial belt, Sarthak bars reach city sites with a short freight leg. For buyers in Raipur and nearby districts, that helps keep supply steady and the delivered cost down.

How Sarthak TMT Bars Are Made

SKA Ispat describes a melt-to-bar route in which the steel is made, cast and rolled at the same plant:

  1. Raw material: sponge iron made from DRCLO (direct reduction grade iron ore) is the main input.
  2. Melting and refining: the charge is melted in an induction furnace, then passed through a refining furnace to clean up the chemistry.
  3. Billet casting: the liquid steel is cast into billets on a continuous casting machine, and the billets travel to the mill on a hot conveyor.
  4. Rolling: an automated rolling mill rolls the billets down to bar size.
  5. Thermex QST: the hot bar is quenched with water from roughly 900°C to about 300°C, then left to self-temper as it cools. This gives a hard outer layer with a softer, ductile core.

The company says it runs quality tests at 10 stages, from raw material and liquid metal through to finished bars, covering chemistry, hardness, ductility, fatigue and corrosion.

Sarthak TMT Grades and Specifications

Sarthak publishes its own typical values next to the IS 1786 minimums for each grade. The table below compares the key mechanical properties. A higher yield strength means a stronger bar; higher elongation and a higher UTS/YS ratio mean the bar can stretch more before it fails, which matters in earthquakes and when bending at site.

Regular Grades: Fe500D, Fe550D and Fe600

GradeYield strength (N/mm²) IS 1786 / SarthakTensile strength (N/mm²) IS 1786 / SarthakUTS/YS ratio IS 1786 / SarthakElongation (%) IS 1786 / Sarthak

Fe550D550 / 560600 / 6601.08 / 1.1514.5 / 17
Fe600600 / 620660 / 6801.06 / 1.0810 / 12

The company also lists a lower maximum carbon content for its Fe500D (0.20% against the 0.25% IS 1786 limit), which helps weldability. As the company itself notes, the values for your actual bars are the ones on the mill test certificate for that lot.

Sarthak CRS: Corrosion-Resistant Grades

Sarthak CRS is the corrosion-resistant range, offered as Fe500D CRS, Fe550D CRS and Fe600 CRS. CRS bars use a modified chemistry with lower carbon to slow rusting, and the company recommends them for coastal areas, industrial zones, marine structures, high-acid atmospheres and agricultural buildings.

GradeSarthak yield strength (N/mm²)Sarthak tensile strength (N/mm²)Sarthak elongation (%)
Fe500D CRS54064017
Fe550D CRS57063016
Fe600 CRS62067012

For most homes and buildings in and around Raipur, which is far from the sea, the regular grades are enough. CRS makes sense near chemical plants, in damp or industrial settings, or wherever your engineer specifies it.

Which Sarthak Grade Should You Buy?

Always follow your structural engineer's drawing. As a general guide:

  • Fe500D: the usual choice for houses, apartments and commercial buildings. The "D" means extra ductility, which helps during bending at site and under earthquake loads.
  • Fe550D: used where the design needs more strength, such as heavier columns, larger spans and industrial buildings.
  • Fe600: the highest-strength grade, used mainly in large infrastructure and heavy structures designed for it. It has lower elongation than the D grades, so use it only where the design calls for it.

The price gap between grades is small compared with the total cost of a slab or column, so ask us to quote the options side by side.

Sizes

Sarthak does not list a size range on its website. TMT bars are usually supplied in 12-metre lengths, and sizes from 8 mm to 32 mm cover most building work. Which Sarthak diameters we have at the Raipur yard changes with site demand, so tell us the sizes you need when you ask for a quote.

How to Check Genuine Sarthak TMT Before You Pay

A few simple checks at the time of delivery protect your structure and your money, whichever dealer you buy from.

Check the Markings and Bundle Tag

  • Brand marking: branded TMT carries the maker's marking rolled onto the bar at regular intervals. The bundle tag should name Sarthak TMT and the grade. Reject bars with no marking or a misspelled brand.
  • ISI mark and licence number: BIS-certified bars carry the ISI mark with a CML licence number. You can check that number against the manufacturer's name, SKA Ispat, on the official BIS portal or the BIS Care app.
  • Grade and size: the grade (for example Fe500D or Fe500D CRS) and the diameter should be clear from the bar marking or the tag.

Ask for the Mill Test Certificate

Every heat of steel is tested at the mill for chemistry and mechanical properties. The mill test certificate (MTC) records the heat number, grade, yield and tensile strength and elongation. A genuine stockist can give you the MTC that matches the heat number on your bundle tags, so you can compare the actual figures with the specification table above.

Check Weight, Not Just Count

TMT is billed by weight, so the weight you pay for should match the weight you receive. A quick check is the standard formula: weight in kg per metre = D² ÷ 162, where D is the diameter in millimetres.

Diameter (mm)Weight (kg per metre)Weight of one 12 m bar (kg)
80.3954.74
100.6177.41
120.88910.67
161.58018.96
202.46929.63
253.85846.30
326.32175.85

These are theoretical weights. IS 1786 allows a small rolling tolerance, so actual bars can be slightly lighter or heavier, but bars that come in far lighter than this for their size are a warning sign. Our rate and weight calculator does the maths for any size and quantity.

Insist on a Weighbridge Slip and a GST Invoice

Ask for a weighbridge slip for every truck and a proper GST tax invoice showing the dealer's GSTIN, the brand, grade, size and weight. Our Verify Before You Pay section shows the documents we share on every order.

Want the MTC before you order? WhatsApp us your grade and sizes and we will share the test certificate for the Sarthak lot in stock along with a written rate.

Sarthak TMT Price in Raipur: What Decides Your Rate

There is no fixed Sarthak TMT price list. Mills revise rates often, sometimes daily, and your final figure depends on a few clear factors:

  • Base mill rate on the day: driven by billet, sponge iron and coal costs.
  • Grade: higher grades and CRS bars usually cost a little more per tonne than Fe500D.
  • Diameter: thinner sizes often cost slightly more per tonne than thicker ones because they need more rolling.
  • Quantity: truckload orders usually get a better per-tonne rate than small retail lots.
  • Delivery distance, GST and loading: check whether the quote includes GST, freight, loading and unloading.
